About the Course
Theater: Playwriting & Performance

Playwriting and Performance is a theater class that will teach the following:

-Story development 

-Crafting dialogue 

-Writing a script

-Theatre terminology

-Acting

-Projection and Voice Control

-Characterization and movement

-Bringing a script to life

-Working as a team

 

In the fall, students will write a play and perform it. In the spring students will write and perform a musical. Scripts will be edited by the instructors. Students will have an opportunity to give feedback on the play or musical that is chosen and will have input on the direction the performance takes.

 

Students may take the class for the whole year, or they may choose to take just one semester, either fall or spring.

 

This class can count as an elective in the Indiana Core 40 Indiana requirements. There is no textbook required for this class but each student will need to print their own script and purchase clothes for their character.

About Diane
Diane

Diane Cullen has taught classes at Cornerstone since 2013. Previously, Diane led the Truth Advocates Speech and Debate Club for nine years teaching students the skills of speaking and debating for competition. She has given feedback on a large number of speeches and debates. She also coordinated and led speech and debate tournaments for the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association. Before that, Diane taught Career Decision making at IUS for fifteen years. While at IUS, Diane was also the Internship Coordinator. She is certified in the Myers Briggs Type Indicator personality assessment tool and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Taylor University. Diane homeschooled her five children who have all now graduated from college. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, interior design, hiking, kayaking, and spending time with friends and family.

About Christina
Christina

Christina is excited for the opportunity to continue teaching at Cornerstone Classical School! She graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelor's Degree in English and Writing: Christian Literature and from Boyce College with an Associate Degree in Biblical and Theological Studies. She has taught a variety of classes at Cornerstone for the last seven years. She attended Weber School of Dance in Jeffersonville for eight years where she studied ballet, tap, jazz, musical theatre, and lyrical dance. At Weber, she also served as an assistant instructor. Along with this, Christina has partnered with Elevate Dance Ministry as an assistant instructor for a dance outreach at Hope Place in Louisville, Kentucky. Besides her love for dance, she also has a passion for creative writing, having studied as a student in high school and further in college. In the spring of 2021, she was blessed to win the Home For His Glory Young Authors Contest.

In her free time, Christina enjoys wandering the outdoors (as long as there are no snakes:), reading good books, doodling characters, writing stories and songs, and choreographing dances.

Christina is looking forward to showing others how to glorify God and share his love through literature and the arts!
