About the Course
A course in realistic drawing based on the classic approach developed by Betty Edwards in the curriculum Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. This course will help your student see like an artist and develop the skill of drawing, even if they don't consider themselves particularly "artistic." The class focuses on seeing edges, spaces, proportions, and light/shadow, through exercises like contour drawings, negative space drawings, "still life" drawings, and portraits. The goal is to help your student draw from life -- the things, places, and people around them -- for enjoyment and as the foundation of all other media in the fine arts (painting, printmaking, etc.).
(I was taught this course as a 10 year old and it was the origin of my ability and serious interest in art, and the launchpoint from which I have pursued other fine art media.)
Follows the upper school schedule.
